Gonorrhoea Symptoms in Singapore: Gonorrhea, also called “the drip” or “the clap,” is a sexually transmitted disease caused by bacterial infection. Gonorrhea can be easily treated.

Symptoms of gonorrhea

After exposure, the symptoms of gonorrhea take 2 to 30 days to appear, with the average being 7 days. Many infected men and women have no symptoms, but can still infect others by sexual contact. Immediately after exposure, a person can begin to spread the disease to others until he or she is treated properly. Asymptomatic individuals are more likely to develop gonorrhea complications at a later stage of life.

Some of the common symptoms of gonorrhea in men are pain or a burning sensation while urinating, a discharge from the tip of the penis (which may be white, yellow or green), pain or soreness in the testicles, and swelling of the penis, especially the foreskin.

Some of the common symptoms of gonorrhea in women are bleeding between periods, heavy menstrual bleeding and bleeding after sex, vaginal discharge (which is often unusually thick, and may be yellow or green), and pain in the lower abdomen.

Infection of other parts of the body, such as the rectum, eyes and throat, is common and may occur through oral or anal sex. Direct contact of contaminated body fluids with the eyes can cause conjunctivitis, which is a painful condition with eye irritation, swelling and eye discharge. Rectal infection leads to pain, discomfort, and abnormal discharge from the rectum. Throat infection may cause a sore throat, and white patches may be visible in the back of the throat.

Vertical transmission of gonorrhea (from an infected mother to her baby) can cause eye infection in the baby, with symptoms of redness, swelling, and thick, pus-like discharge from the eyes. These symptoms are visible within first two weeks after birth.
