Molluscum Contagiosum Prevention in Singapore: Molluscum contagiosum is a skin infection caused by a virus. The infection causes bumps on the upper layers of the skin surface. It is easily transmitted.
Prevention of molluscum contagiosum
If you are a healthy individual, molluscum contagiosum infection can be prevented by:
Treating any underlying skin disorder (eczema), especially in children
Abstaining from sexual activities or having monogamous relationship with an uninfected person. Using male or female condoms cannot completely prevent molluscum contagiosum infection, as it cannot offer protection from skin-to-skin contact in areas not covered by the condom.
Avoiding direct skin-to-skin contact with any infected individual.
Avoiding the sharing of potentially infected personal items, such as razors, towels, clothing, mats, washcloths, and gym equipment (without cleaning between uses).
Avoiding picking or scratching of any lesion.
Covering exposed lesions with a bandage or clothing to prevent viral transmission.
