Trichomoniasis Testing in Singapore: Trichomoniasis, often called “trich,” is a disease often transmitted by unprotected sex. It is easily curable with a course of antibiotics.
Diagnosis of Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis in Singapore is a fairly common disease. It can resemble other sexually-transmitted diseases, so accurate diagnosis may sometimes be difficult. Diagnostic tests can confirm trichomoniasis as the cause of your symptoms. Your doctor will use a cotton swab to collect a sample of your genital discharge to send for testing. The standard test is a culture, in which the fluid samples are incubated in the laboratory; it takes a few days to get the results. There are more advanced forms of testing that look for the proteins or DNA of the parasite; these can return results within a few hours.
If trichomoniasis is strongly suspected, antibiotics may be started before getting the laboratory results. This helps to arrest the spread of the infection, makes you comfortable sooner, and can prevent pregnancy-associated complications of the disease. If you test positive for trichomoniasis, your doctor may also ask for tests for other STDs, such as HIV.
Once you are diagnosed, you should notify your current and/or recent sexual partner(s) so that they can be tested and treated.
