Trichomoniasis Treatment in Singapore: Trichomoniasis, often called “trich,” is a disease often transmitted by unprotected sex. It is easily curable with a course of antibiotics.
How can my doctor treat my problem?
Without treatment, trichomoniasis is unlikely to go away on its own. Trichomoniasis is treated with antibiotics. The most effective antibiotics are tinidazole and metronidazole; either one is taken orally, usually twice daily for 5-7 days. If you are allergic to these medications, there are also topical medications that are applied into the vagina. Taking the oral medications is more effective than vaginal gel application. Make sure to take the whole course of treatment, and abstain from sexual activities until your doctor confirms that the infection has gone.
On the downside, these oral medications may cause few undesirable side effects including headache, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, andan unpleasant metallic taste in your mouth. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking metronidazole or tinidazole, as it may worsen these side effects.
To prevent recurrence of trichomoniasis, your sexual partner(s) should also be treated. It could be up to one week before the treatment for trichomoniasis eliminates the organism. Until then, you and your partner should avoid unprotected sex. You can lower the risk of trichomoniasis transmission through the proper use of condoms, every time you have sexual contact with your partner.
